3 Daytrip Ideas for Great Food | Tips May Day Weekend
No plans for the long weekend yet? These places are worth the trip out of town.
Hii and happy Wednesday-that-feels-like-a-Friday (the best kind).
The weather is gorgeouzz and will stay that way over the long weekend, which, of course, is great but can also sometimes feel a little stressful. Maybe you’re not a psychopath like me, but I get that it's-sunny-outside FOMO a lot. So if you want to do a little Ausflug but can’t be bothered with a full-blown 6-hour hike: I got you.
As inspo for this weekend, I’d like to share 3 places with you that are perfect as destinations for a day trip, with a bit of outdoor-ness on top (if you feel like it). All three are reachable within an hour or less, and they’re all run by young restaurateurs who reinterpret regional Bavarian cuisine. For all of them I highly recommend making a reservation before going.
Lokal Landl
If Landl were in Munich, it would have definitely made it into my Munich-can-be-cool Guide! It’s a beautiful location and part of Landlmühle, which is this creative little village near Rosenheim where living, working, and nature blend together. They do amazing modern regional food (take the menu!), have a great wine selection and spread all-around great vibes with a lovely team and records spinning in the background.

If you like to combine it with a walk, I highly recommend nearby Simssee. Just park at the southern ‘Strandbad’ and walk around the pretty moss woods or take a dip in the lake.

STUBN (Frasdorfer Hütte)
So you want to go to the mountains but still crave a special culinary treat beyond the classic Hüttenschmaus? Then this is for you. Frasdorfer Hütte has been around for generations but was beautifully renovated and re-opened as STUBN in 2022. Their cuisine is definitely alpine but with a modern twist. Again, I’d recommend going for the menu! They also rent out rooms, so you could hike up for dinner and stay the night - which I haven’t done yet, but imagine to be blissful.

Speaking of hiking, there are several ways to get there, and luckily they have a whole section on their website dedicated to just that: check it here. I’d definitely recommend the 50 min hike from Aschau as it has amazing views, and honestly, views are my main reason to hike in the first place.

Zum Vaas
Out of the three, Zum Vaas is definitely the most traditional one, but I still find it stands out among many other Wirtshäuser around Munich. It’s the combo of excellent seasonal Bavarian food, warm family-run hospitality, and a remarkable wine list. They also have a lovely garden where you can sit outside in summer and watch their own little chickens.
You can either combine it with any trip to the eastern outskirts and end your day here - or, if you're a cyclist (by that I mean you like cycling, not necessarily that you own a racing bike and wear tight clothes), do the whole trip by bike or take the S-Bahn to Vaterstetten and enjoy a nice 40-minute ride.

That’s it for this holiday weekend.
I’d also like to remind you about our very own Multi Muc Aperitivo happening on May 8th.
What to expect? A casual get-together at an amazing rooftop location with an open bar & snacks. Come solo or with a friend, come if you like to meet new people and come to just open up your horizon. Also, if you are someone who brings change to this city, this is a great way to connect with myself and others.
