Hello and Konnichiwa from Japan everyone 🇯🇵🌸
Some might say it’s funny timing launching the newsletter right before my holiday, but just because I’m away doesn’t mean I’m not frantically looking for the best things for you to do in Munich this week! It does however mean I’m doing this from an iPad, so for this edition we roll with huge images without captions (can’t edit them on tablet, if you know how to do that please teach me).
Just before I left, I passed a beautiful row of blossoming cherry trees back home, which gave me the genius idea to share my holiday feeling and present you:
Places in Munich that feel like Japan
Cherry Blossom at Olympiapark
While I'm over here indulging in some real hanami (tradition of watching the cherry blossoms), you can enjoy the beauty of sakura right in Munich! The trees where actually a gift from Munich's Japanese sister city Sapporo during the 1972 Olympics, which I think makes it all the more special.
Olympiapark
Always open
Colors of Japan Exhibition at Bayerische Staatsbibliothek
This year’s annual exhibition at ‘Stabi’ looks really stunning and is free to visit until July 6th. ‘Colors of Japan’ is showcasing over 130 Japanese color woodcuts and beautiful large-scale prints from the 18th to 20th century.

Sunday-Friday
10am-6pm
Japanese Teahouse at Englischer Garten
A bit hidden on a small island in the Eisbach, behind Haus der Kunst, lies the tranquil Japanese Teahouse Kanshoan. We also owe this one to our friends from Sapporo who gifted it alongside the trees in 1972 for the Olympic Games. From April to October, the Urasenke Tea School offers public tea ceremonies, next ones are this Saturday & Sunday but best check their site again.
Teahouse Kanshoan
Open for ceremonies only
Stay tuned for part 2 next week, where I’ll be sharing my favorite Japanese food spots 🍣🍜🍥🍘🥟
