Best spots for a swim in the city
Time for some serious moving water appreciation | Tips 26.-29.6
Hello dear Multi friends!
Summer is finally in full bloom, which means ✨it’s time to shine✨ for Munich. Every time I’m in a more..how to put this…’metropolitan’ city and get seduced by hip small plates restaurants and buzzy gallery openings, I try to remember the fact that in Munich, you can swim for FREE in crystal-clear water in the MIDDLE of the city, which instantly makes me feel at peace about living here.
So let’s dive right in - my favorite places for a quick dip:
Tivoli (Eisbach)
My number one go-to, not just because it’s close to me but I also love that you can have a proper full-body swim and not just a splish-splash. It doesn’t have shallow banks so it’s not hyper child-friendly (it’s nudist-friendly though, like many spots along the Eisbach). I really like that even on weekends, you find calm spots (especially on the right side, behind the path). It’s technically pretty close to a street but once you’re there you don’t really notice.

Another huge plus for this spot is the Tivoli Pavillon, a few hundred meters away. It got everything you need: cold drinks, ice-cream, great Pommes and a bathroom. It never gets too crowded and is also a great place for parents to hang out and have their kids play in the mini playground or admire the sheep that occasionally graze on the next meadow.
Schwabinger Bach
Well, this isn’t a hidden gem but hear me out. It’s perfect for a quick mid-week mid-day dip (and Milchhäusl nearby means drinks & bathroom). But of course, if you enjoy a blend of toddlers, Erasmus students and big groups with speakers and flunkyballs, go ahead and spend your weekend here too.
Isar (North)

I love the section between Isarwehr Oberföhring and St.Emmeram BUT depending on how high the Isar is running, sometimes my favorite spots are flooded. So keep that in mind when looking for the exact locations I recommend.
Isar (North/Central)
Compared to other more central spots along the Isar, this one by Max-Joseph Brücke (between Lehel and Bogenhausen) is never super packed and really easy to get to.
Isar (Central)
Honestly, I rarely go but it feels strange to not include. I’d always go somewhere a little further on weekends as all ‘beaches’ between Isartor and Wittelsbacherbrücke get packed, loud and barbecue-y. Buuut I think especially the area just between Müllersches Volksbad and Praterinsel is really nice.
Isar (South)

These would be my go-to if I’d live a bit more south. So many beautiful spots that genuinely make you wonder why you’d ever sit in a car for 50min to drive to a lake.
These were just my personal favorites and I’m sure you have a lot more. Please be so kind and share them with me here ↓ so we can do a second round soon.
